Belly Dance – The Sensual Dance From The Middle East
Belly Dance originates from the Middle East, but has quickly gained popularity in the western world. Today, there are many Belly Dance classes available in almost every country and city, as both women and men like the idea of learning this special kind of dance.
The roots of this dance are hidden deep in the history of the human civilizations that populated the Middle East, and it was first used as part of ceremonies for younger women, as people back then believed that this dance could increase the fertility of a woman.
In the beginning, Belly Dance was performed only for an audience of women. Men were not allowed to participate or even watch these ceremonies, as in the Middle East all fertility improvement methods were hidden from men’s eyes. As time passed, this sensual dance lost its role as a part of the ceremony, and became more and more popular as a source of entertainment and performance for special occasions.
The dance evolved even further, and today we enjoy the art of the professional belly dance performers in their colorful garments and flowing scarves and veils as a part of the program in nightclubs, cabaret, theme restaurants, various shows and many other places.
Belly Dance focuses on movements of the torso, which is the opposite of most dances where movements are made by the legs and feet. Hip movements are important too. Traveling steps are used, so that the dancer does not remain stationary, as well as movements of the arms, hands and neck.
The dance is natural to a woman's body structure, and, during the performance, there are many elements of isolation, focusing on and emphasizing different parts of the body. At the time when the dance appeared, the dancer was barefooted, to express the connection between the ritual and the Earth, and this is still valid even today.
Learning this sensual dance is not difficult, and this is why there are so many people today who visit belly dancing classes as a hobby. This dance is very good for your body, as it helps you achieve a good level of fitness while having fun at the same time; it is also very good for your mind, as it relieves stress and makes you feel more sexy and sensual. It is always performed to some sort of music, which makes dancing even more relaxing and enjoyable for everyone.
Even though the dance was originally performed only by women, today there are men who also practice it and really enjoy themselves. The body of a man is not built to be able perform the same moves as a woman can, but there are some other interpretations of Belly Dance, making it possible for a man to also perform this art. A male belly dancer will use different moves and will interpret the movements differently – he will be better at perform stronger and more energetic moves; a female belly dancer will be more proficient in performing fluid and sensual moves.
