Salsa – Rhythm and Fire from Cuba
Salsa is a great social activity, helping you make new friends; have more fun with the friends you already have; or find a partner who enjoys salsa as much as you do, as after all, Salsa is to be danced in couples.

Salsa originates from Cuba, and is very popular these days. Many people want to learn how to dance it, and most dance studios offer salsa lessons. If you want to learn how to dance Salsa just for fun, or to get some exercise, you can find classes in almost every country around the world – from Cuba, where the dance originates from, to Spain, Italy and even Egypt.

There are other dances that also originate from Cuba; rumba, mambo, and cha-cha are other such dance styles, and are also quite popular amongst the ballroom dancing community. Out of all four dances, Salsa is said to be the sexiest form of ballroom dance, and perhaps this is what makes it very popular.

The story about how Salsa appeared is very interesting. It is said that it evolved in the 50s from the traditional rumba, under the effect of the end of the communist revolution. The political events in Cuba prompted the birth of a new, evolved dance, because the population felt the need to dance in a more 'daring' way. Soon the new dance became an integral part of the Cuban culture. Salsa not only matches the other Cuban dances in attractiveness and appeal, but it actually gained even more popularity than other dances did over the last couple of decades.

One of the best and most fun ways to learn how to dance Salsa is an actual visit to Cuba. There, in the nightclubs of Havana, the capital of the country, you can learn the newest Salsa dancing techniques from the people who have Salsa dancing in their blood. If you have the chance to visit Cuba and experience the nightlife there, you will have very memorable and emotional time learning Salsa!

Of course, there are many people who cannot afford the trip to Cuba. However, you can learn salsa and have a lot of fun even if you never visit Cuba! There are many ballroom dance studios all over the world, teaching the basics of sSalsa, and also showing some advanced techniques to people who already have some experience in this dance. They do not all teach the exact same style, but the basic steps are the same.

If you want to learn how to dance Salsa just for fun, it will take you literally no time to learn the three basic dance steps; they are very easy. What is difficult about Salsa is actually becoming a master in these steps. Most people who visit dance studios do not aim to become professional dancers – they just want to learn how to dance and have fun.

Dancing in general and salsa in particular, help you get into better physical shape. Dancing does require a lot of energy, especially if you are dancing to the energizing rhythms of salsa. However, dancing is so much fun, that you will find yourself feeling happier, stronger and healthier very quickly, just after a few Salsa dance training sessions.

Salsa is a great social activity, helping you make new friends; have more fun with the friends you already have; or find a partner who enjoys salsa as much as you do, as after all, Salsa is to be danced in couples. All you have to do is decide if you want to learn it and if you do – head to the nearest dance studio and ask for their Salsa classes’ schedule!
